プリンス作品中、いちばん苦手なのは……
トリノ・オリンピックの話題を耳にするたび、鳥のオリンピックを想像してニッコリしてしまう印南です。
今日はプリンスのアルバムをファーストから順番に聴きなおしていて、いま「パープル・レイン」が流れているところです。
おそらくプリンスの作品中いちばんの人気作であるに違いないこのアルバム、僕はいちばん苦手。
ギターがうるさすぎて耳が疲れてしまうし、この時点で頂点に達したといっていい過度な耽美的世界につきあうのもどこかキツく。
マニアの人はそれが好きなんだろうけど、僕は岡村靖幸じゃないしなあ。
と、ずっと思っていたんだけれど、いや、その気持ちは大筋で変わっていないんだけど、でもひさしぶりに聴いてみた結果、「テイク・ミー・ウィズ・ユー」とか実は大好きだったんだなあということがわかりました。
それだけでも、僕にとっては大きな収穫だったわけです。

僕は『1999』と『パープル・レイン』が苦手という邪道です。なんと思われようが。
まー、当時の嫌な思い出とかがフラッシュ・バックしてきちゃうからっていう理由もあって、だとすればそれは、このアルバムが当時いかにものすごかったかっていうことの証明にもなるわけだけどね。
ちなみにいちばん好きな曲は「Kiss」。アルバムでいえば「Kiss」のはいった『パレード』、それから『サイン・オブ・ザ・タイムス』かな。

プリンスは最高！僕にとって他の表現が見当たりませぬ。
バットマンの前までは全作２重○。あえていうならパープルレインだけは○。でも"When doves cry"なんて素晴らしいじゃないですか。
"Kiss""Sign o the times"なんかの変態ファンクが本領発揮てとこでしょうか。
