トニーズ・ファンの正体は？
「ブラック・ミュージックが好きなんです。特に、トニーズが大好きなんですよぉ！」
さて、半年ほど前に聞いたこの言葉は、誰の口から発せられたものでしょう？
そこから一気に話が盛り上がり、このアルバムのことについて話したわけですが、僕としては「トニー・トニー・トニー」ではなく、さらっと「トニーズ」と言ったところに驚かされました。
ある程度の知識を持っている人というわけで、それがヒントかな。
トニーズことトニー・トニー・トニーの'93年作『サンズ・オブ・ソウル』、思えばリリースから13年もたつわけですが（ホントかよ?!）、いま聴いてもやっぱり最高ですね。
その名のとおり、ジェイムス・ブラウン、レイ・チャールズ、アレサ・フランクリン、スティーヴィー・ワンダーなどなど、ソウルの先人たちへのリスペクトが込められた作品。
「マイ・エクス・ガールフレンド」は当時、レギュラー・プレイしていた店での定番ナンバーでした。
なんか一曲一曲がもう、思い出だらけって感じで。
ところで、冒頭のクイズですが、正解はなんと椎名林檎さんです。
意外でしょー。ロックのイメージが圧倒的に強かっただけに、僕もホントびっくりした。
「ソウルは兄からの影響で好きになったんですよ」
ああ、なるほど。そういうことか。
妙に納得したりもしました。
