なにをやっても許せる人
先週壊れたクルマはまだ入院中です。
VとWのつくドイツ車は頑丈だと思ってたのに、アメ車よりもダメダメです。
日々怒り中。
それはともかく。
誰のなかにも、「なにをやっても許せるアーティスト」ってのがいますよね。
僕にも何人かいて、そのひとりがミルトン・ナシメントです。
声も歌も作曲能力も、この人はすべてにおいて許せます。
というか、好きすぎて困っています。
僕がいちばん好きなのは、1994年に出たこのアルバム。
後期の作品であるこれをピック・アップする人は少ないかもしれないけど、好きなものは好きなんだから仕方ないです。
ウェイン・ショーター、ジェームス・テイラー、ピーター・ゲイブリエル、パット・メセニー、ロン・カーター、ハービー・ハンコック、ジャック・ディジョネット等々ゲストも豪華すぎ。
早い話がメジャー志向の作品ではあるので、逆にそれが誤解のもとになっているのかも。
でもね、これホントにすんばらしいアルバムです。
適度にポップで適度に切なく、全体的なバランスも最高。
なかでも僕が好きなのは、ビートルズのカヴァー「ハロー・グッバイ」。
ミルトン・ナシメントがビートルズをカヴァー、ってだけで拒否反応を示す人もいるかもしれませんが、イメージだけでこのヴァージョンを否定するのはあまりにももったいない。
僕は、ビートルズのオリジナルよりも好きかもしれないな。
泣けますぜ。
