枯れた味わい、変わらない魅力
なにをやっても許せるアーティストというのが、僕のなかにも何人かいる。
リチャード・トンプソンもそのひとりだ。
フォーキーでブルージーな音楽性、余裕を感じさせる枯れたヴォーカルなどなど、何年たっても色あせない魅力をその音楽のなかに感じるからだ。
フェアポート・コンヴェンションでの実績もさることながら、この人には存在自体に意義を感じる。
だからRichard & Linda Thompson名義でリリースされた75年のセカンド『Hokey Pokey』はもとより、1988年の『Amnesia』とか1997年の『Industry』とか、いまでも好きなアルバムがたくさんある。
で、今回も満足でした。なんの話って新作の『Front Parlour Ballads』のこと。
ぶっちゃけ「劇的な変化」とは無縁。
というか、あったら逆に困るわけで、いつもどおりの自然体なリチャード・トンプソン・スタイル。
「変わらない魅力」ってとこですかねー。
疲れた日の深夜などに、こっそり聴いている。
