棚を眺めていたとき目についたCD
そこにあったことは意識していたものの、聴くのは何年ぶりのことやら。
でも聴いてみたら、いまなお色褪せない完成度に改めて驚かされた。
なんのことかって、ザ・リジョン（The Legion）の『Theme + Echo = Krill』の話。
ブラック・シープに後押しされ、'94年に登場してきた3人組だ。
というだけあって、ジャズ・サンプルのセンスが抜群にいいトラックには適度な屈折感があった。
それにラップの節回しがとてもいい。
彼らとは、一度だけ会ったことがある。
たしか'95年。ショウビズ & A.G.の日本公演についてきたんじゃなかったかな。
記憶が曖昧なんだけど、オーガナイズド・コンフュージョンに会ったのと同じときだった気がするから、ってことはD.I.T.C.（ディギン・イン・ザ・クレイツ）クルーがセットで来日したときか？
なんか、そんな気がしてきた。
懐かしいなあ。
そしてそして、リジョンはいかついルックスに反してとてもおとなしく、紳士的なのだった。
『Theme + Echo = Krill』が好きだと伝えたとき、メンバーのMoleculesがやさしい目をして「ありがとう」といってくれたのをおぼえている。
